Salina is the second largest island of the Aeolian archipelago and is located in the Tyrrhenian Sea off the northern coast of Sicily. It owes its name to a small lake in the village of S. Marina, from which salt was extracted.

Salina is the most fertile and watery island of the archipelago and owes its development mainly to the cultivation and production of capers and noble grapes from which the "Malvasia delle Lipari" is obtained, a sweet and liqueur wine that has been highly appreciated for centuries.

Today tourism is the main economic resource of the island. During the summer months it is possible to reach the island of Salina from the ports of Palermo, Messina, Reggio Calabria, Vibo Valentia, Sapri, Salerno and Naples Mergellina, while throughout the year there are connections to Salina from the port of Milazzo.
